Born in the Dominican Republic, Adriano de Jesús Espaillat Cabral, who is Afro-Latino, made history in 2016 becoming the first Dominican-American AND first formerly undocumented immigrant, to ever be elected into United States Congress.
Congressman Adriano Espaillat (D-NY) was the one that honored “The Unknown Tuskegee Airman” fellow Dominican, Esteban Hotesse, with Congressional Gold Medal
He also hosted the first ever “Dominicans on the Hill” in Washington DC
Among the many accomplishments and good works he has done over the years, one of the more compassionate customs he has is, that he dedicates his Valentine’s Day to immigration causes.
It could be said he was destined for politics, his great-grandfather was a Dominican President, Ulises Espaillat.
