Miss USA Contestant Speaks Up on Immigration

story by: Yol-Itzma Aguirre

Last night during the nationally televised Miss USA pageant, Miss New Mexico – Alejandra González of Las Cruces, NM – (who is originally from Texas, born and raised in the RGV) was asked an important question regarding the next presidential election, here is her answer:

This was a huge moment for Texas, and the entire border region, which has been constantly under attack by the current President and administration. She spoke with love and pride as someone who is a product of a beautiful border area, specifically from “The Valley” in Texas.

Alejandra then went on to say that her parents are from Monterrey Mexico, putting respect on rolling her “r” in the pronunciation. Our hearts swooned.

In a time where Trump (who previously owned the Miss USA pageant from 1996-2015) wants to paint us as the worst, it was a beautiful moment of irony to watch her – a border resident, a UTRGV (University of Texas at Rio Grande Valley) graduate, with a Masters in Accounting – represent our very best!

González would go on to the top 3 and then ultimately the first runner-up; we are so proud of her and honored to share her with New Mexico. Afterwards Alejandra “Allie” went live on IG and as she thanked everyone she also took a moment to send some love back to Texas and her team (who are all from South Texas) as well as, thanking her family, both here and in Monterrey!
